Our First Annual Charity Golf Tournament

We hosted our first annual charity golf tournament at Regatta Bay Golf and Country Club on Friday, November 15, 2013, benefitting the Mary Lynne Burnett Memorial Foundation. We raised a total of $12,002.32 for the foundation, which provides scholarships to Okaloosa and/or Walton county high school students that have shown dedication to their education in spite of challenging circumstances such as the loss of a parent, major illness, etc. One of our own realtors, Doug Burnett, created the foundation in honor of his late wife that passed away in 2008 from breast cancer.

Over gracious 150 members of the local community rallied together to participate in the charity golf tournament as sponsors, tournament players, raffle item donors, food and beverage donors, and volunteers.  The tournament hosted 25 foursomes, along with several individual players.  Golfers were greeted with mimosas, provided by putting green sponsor, Bracken Law, P.A.  as well as bloody marys provided by driving range sponsor, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.  All golfers and volunteers enjoyed delicious sub sandwiches and chips courtesy of Lenny’s Sub Shop of Destin. ORR Auto and Porsche of Destin displayed several of their vehicles on the club house lawn, along with Sunshine Shuttle’s stretch limousine and the 99ROCK van for a live radio remote. The after party sponsored by Beaches Resorts and Parks Magazine and Henderson Park Inn included live music by Donnie Sundal of Boukou Groove and free food provided by Landshark’s Pizza Co. Winning bidders and raffle prize winners went home with prizes among many such as a Bote Board, a stay at Henderson Park Inn, PGA Tour member memorabilia, a 6 carat aquamarine jewel and more. The winning team took home a prize package worth over $750 including free rounds of golf, gift certificates to local restaurants, and customized golf balls.

Our Co-owners and brokers, Johnathan Hughes and Jerry Sullivan, are thrilled at the outcome of the charity golf tournament.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout! We look forward to hosting this event annually in hopes to support many local charities,” Hughes said.

“Our goal for the golf tournament was to make a difference in the local community,” said Jerry Sullivan. “There are so many deserving children right here in our area. We are glad to know the Mary Lynne Burnett Foundation will help local students reach their goal despite the circumstances.”

Doug Burnett and other foundation members will work with the local school districts on receiving applicants for the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to two recipients in March 2014 based on an interview process, an essay submission, and administrator recommendations.
